Merry Christmas and happy holidays everybody! I hope you are all enjoying your winter break and time with your families! Our family had a wonderful Christmas morning and after opening presents, decided to go for a walk around the North Creek Lake. We got a trash bag and a trash picker and picked up any trash we saw. On our way to the lake alone, we picked up a whole bag full of trash. Then as we walked around the lake, we picked up 2 bag fulls of trash. Unfortunately, the lake was frozen over and some trash was frozen into the lake, so we couldn't pick them up. Still, we were able to get three bags of trash total, and though it was only a small act, we helped make the world a little cleaner today. You can see the pictures below.
Going into 2020, we plan on continuing our efforts to keep our community clean, and we hope that you take some time out of your year to help make your community cleaner, as well. Maybe next decade through everyone's collaborative efforts, we can reverse climate change.

Back to School!!
School started 2 weeks ago, so we haven't had much time to post these pictures, but as we said in our last post regarding a newly found area with a plentiful amount of trash, we went and picked it up. We went with a few big trash bags along with grabbers in order to pick up as much trash as we could find. We ended up getting 3 bags full of trash as seen in the photos below, and all the trash was detrimental to the environment. Speaking of school, in my English class we watched a TED Talk from 16 year old climate activist Greta Thunburg and it was really eye opening as it brought into perspective just how much we need to save the environment. So as always, remember to always be environmentally aware of your decisions and have a great school year!

Virginia Beach
My family and I just came back from a four day trip to Virginia beach, where we relaxed in yurts and cleaned up some trash along the way!. Because we stayed at a camp ground, there was a lot of small pieces of litter to pick up, especially in the sand. We also saw both a beached dead sea turtle and a dead pelican. The sea turtle was slightly more than four feet in length, and its shell was half destroyed. A few people who saw it believed that it might have been damaged by a boat propeller. This is one example of human impact right in front of us. Hopefully it did not pass away because of this reason, but it reminds us of the importance of being careful of wildlife.

Montgomery Village Trash Clean Up
We recently went on a walk around Montgomery Village and as usual, found trash along the way. In the pictures below you'll see cups, bottles, cans, and plastic bags. We also found an area which contained a lot of trash. Before, the grass and weeds in the area were too tall for people to see anything but apparently, it's recently been cut, revealing the trash. We're planning on going back to the spot with a larger trash bag and some pickers to thoroughly clean the area soon. Remember to properly dispose of your trash and recycle!

School's Out
Since summer break started last Friday, today is the first day that we did not have school. Hopefully, now I will have a lot more time on my hands! Last night, we took another walk and ended up collecting some more trash along the way. There is still a lot to be done in our own community and there is always something to be picked up. Here's a few pictures of the trash we collected. Since it's summer now, I think we can post more often.

Last Day of May!
Today, we walked through Montgomery Village and we found trash, as usual. As you can see in the pictures below, we found many bottles, bags, and wrappers, all of which are easy to dispose of. I think pollution is going to be becoming a bigger problem as it gets warmer outside as more people are going to be walking outside which means more trash is going to be thrown out. Also, since it's getting warmer many animals are coming out, so trash is going to have a bigger impact on them. Just remember to throw your trash away and recycle when you can, see you in June!

Memorial Day Weekend
This weekend, we decided to go for a walk around North Creek lake because it was such a nice day. We brought new trash pickers because our previous ones broke, but we did not end up finding that much trash because the vegetation had grown so much. All the leaves and foliage ended up blocking our view and preventing us from getting too close to the water's edge. From what we could see, the lake seemed a lot cleaner. While we didn't see that much trash, we did end up seeing a lot of wildlife, including a beaver, which I had never seen before in this lake!
Another interesting thing we saw was that recently the lake had some fishing material disposal containers added. This is really great because it provides a specific place to discard those materials so that they can be recycled accordingly. Lots of people fish at this lake so hopefully it will make a difference in our community! Here are some pictures we took today.

Happy Spring!
Hello everybody, happy Spring. Since Spring came around and the weather started to get nicer, we decided to go on a walk. We found lots of plastic bottles, cups, and containers, as well as cans, bags, and glass bottles. Now more than ever we have to be cautious of littering because many animals are going to start coming out due to the warm weather. The trash is dangerous for them, so make sure you throw trash away in trash cans and recycle if possible!

Happy Valentine's!
Happy late Valentines Day! A few days ago we went on a walk around the Montgomery Village Plaza and found some trash along the way. We found bottle, cans, cups, and containers. Remember, this could easily be preventable if you just find the nearest trash can and throw your trash away. See you next time!
