Montgomery Village Trash Pick-Up

Watching Helena and Sana posting pictures over past years, I thought as a dad of two awesome girls, I could contribute to this project too. Nandin (my wife) and I went for a walk in the neighborhood, and saw a big bag tossed around the corner. So we picked it up naturally. We used it immediately and picked up two bags of trash along the Montgomery Village Ave and Watkins Mill road. Here are some photos. Summer is coming - let's keep our community clean. Happy spring!

Spring Cleaning

Hi everyone! With it being my junior year of high school I haven't been able to go on walks and clean up as much as I would have wanted to. But, now that I've finished my AP exams, we've been able to take two trips to the lake to help clean up trash. We collected one bag full of trash on each trip. Most of the trash was composed of small pieces but we also found a big plastic gallon container. I'm glad to be back helping to keep our community clean!

Winter Break Walk

Hi everyone! I just got home for winter break, and the weather has been much warmer compared to last year around this time. We decided to go out for a walk to North Creek Lake to do some trash collection. While it is really warm, the vegetation is still pretty sparse, so it was easy to see exposed trash around the edge of the lake. We were able to pick up a bag and a half in about an hour of walking. Here are some of the pictures we took below.

Casual Summer Trash Collection

Hello everyone! I recently returned back home for my summer break from university. After being away for eight months, it was amazing to spend time with friends and family. When the weather was good, we decided to go to North Creek Lake to take a walk and clean up some trash. On this trip, we walked around only half of the lake, but we were able to collect a bag of trash, which implies that there is still much more work to be done in keeping our community clean. Most of the trash that we found were old and discolored bottles. However, we also found some food containers and plastic packaging. I have attached an image below of the bag that we collected!

Happy (Late) New Year!

Hi everyone, it's been a while since we last posted, but happy new year! Hopefully, it's been going great for you so far!

Recently, we walked around the lake and picked up trash as per usual. This time we collected 4 bags of trash! We found lots of bottles, cans, and wrappers. We also found a broken bike thrown into the bushes. Most importantly, we found dead animals. We found a turtle, which was in a pocket of extremely dirty and trash-filled water, and a fish that was inside of a bottle. I think seeing them really emphasized how badly wildlife is impacted by pollution.

Happy Summer!

This weekend we went on a walk around North Creek Lake and picked up trash. We found most of the trash near a little stream next to the lake. We also saw lots of wildlife on our walk, like a family of geese and this turtle that was being followed by some fish! Since it's finally summer, we'll have more time to go on walks to pick up trash and post, so look forward to that!

Happy Holidays!

Happy holidays everyone! We hope that even during this pandemic, you're enjoying the holidays and getting some time to yourselves. During our break, we got the opportunity to go and pick up trash at the lake for the first time in a while. It was pretty cold and the lake was slightly frozen over but we were still able to collect 2 bags of trash! During our initial visit, we did our usual walk around the lake to pick up any trash we saw. During our walk, we talked to some people we came across and they informed us that there was a lot of trash in a little area just off the lake path, so we went down and we found many bottles and cans, which we collected and disposed of. Here are some pictures:

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween everyone! A few days ago, we went out on a walk around town and picked up some trash. It wasn't a lot, but even picking up one or two pieces of trash helps the environment. Stay safe and be responsible, and we hope you have fun this Halloween!

Collecting a Trash Bin Lid!

I recently went to collect trash with some friends at a local lake. I usually do not go to this lake, but I am glad that we decided to visit it because we managed to collect a very large amount of trash! We made sure to wear masks and gloves to protect ourselves. We also were careful to avoid contact with other people passing by! Along the way, we saw many geese and even some turtles. sunbathing. We even managed to get most of the trash further into the water which was very exciting.

Over the course of about an hour and a half, we collected three trash bags of trash along with a huge trash can lid that we fished out! Here are some pictures of the trash bags we collected.

Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas and happy holidays everybody! I hope you are all enjoying your winter break and time with your families! Our family had a wonderful Christmas morning and after opening presents, decided to go for a walk around the North Creek Lake. We got a trash bag and a trash picker and picked up any trash we saw. On our way to the lake alone, we picked up a whole bag full of trash. Then as we walked around the lake, we picked up 2 bag fulls of trash. Unfortunately, the lake was frozen over and some trash was frozen into the lake, so we couldn't pick them up. Still, we were able to get three bags of trash total, and though it was only a small act, we helped make the world a little cleaner today. You can see the pictures below.

Going into 2020, we plan on continuing our efforts to keep our community clean, and we hope that you take some time out of your year to help make your community cleaner, as well. Maybe next decade through everyone's collaborative efforts, we can reverse climate change.

Back to School!!

School started 2 weeks ago, so we haven't had much time to post these pictures, but as we said in our last post regarding a newly found area with a plentiful amount of trash, we went and picked it up. We went with a few big trash bags along with grabbers in order to pick up as much trash as we could find. We ended up getting 3 bags full of trash as seen in the photos below, and all the trash was detrimental to the environment. Speaking of school, in my English class we watched a TED Talk from 16 year old climate activist Greta Thunburg and it was really eye opening as it brought into perspective just how much we need to save the environment. So as always, remember to always be environmentally aware of your decisions and have a great school year!

Virginia Beach

My family and I just came back from a four day trip to Virginia beach, where we relaxed in yurts and cleaned up some trash along the way!. Because we stayed at a camp ground, there was a lot of small pieces of litter to pick up, especially in the sand. We also saw both a beached dead sea turtle and a dead pelican. The sea turtle was slightly more than four feet in length, and its shell was half destroyed. A few people who saw it believed that it might have been damaged by a boat propeller. This is one example of human impact right in front of us. Hopefully it did not pass away because of this reason, but it reminds us of the importance of being careful of wildlife.

Montgomery Village Trash Clean Up

We recently went on a walk around Montgomery Village and as usual, found trash along the way. In the pictures below you'll see cups, bottles, cans, and plastic bags. We also found an area which contained a lot of trash. Before, the grass and weeds in the area were too tall for people to see anything but apparently, it's recently been cut, revealing the trash. We're planning on going back to the spot with a larger trash bag and some pickers to thoroughly clean the area soon. Remember to properly dispose of your trash and recycle!
